Major indexes rallied yesterday on lighter volume following Monday's severe sell-off. In a bearish move, indexes gave up most of their gains in the final minutes of the trading day.
Futures were nearly flat on Wednesday, pulling back from sharp losses earlier, after the Trump administration softened its stance on restricting foreign investments. The US government will rely on a modernized Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) as the best approach to protect sensitive domestic technologies, a senior administration official said. Nevertheless, rising protectionism is a threat to equity markets.
